Fitzgerald River National Park Walk Trail Appeal – 22 December 2011

Minister’s hat trick applauded: Greens

The Greens welcome three good decisions in a row* from the Environment Minister with his rejection today of plans to build a full walk trail through the wilderness management zone in the Fitzgerald River National Park.

“Minister Marmion is to be applauded for upholding the Environmental Protection Authority’s advice against the walk trial,” Greens MLC Giz Watson said.

“I also applaud the Friends of the Fitzgerald River National Park for their ongoing work to conserve the park and in appealing against the intrusion into the wilderness zone,” she said.

The Fitzgerald River National Park is an internationally significant area of extraordinary environmental diversity and very vulnerable to dieback.

“The park’s wilderness zone must be protected from any unwise proposals that could lead to further incursions of dieback,” she said.

* Note: The upholding of the EPA’s rejection of two coal mining applications and today’s decision.
