Sexuality

Giz was the first openly lesbian parliamentarian in Australia and her role was key to the passing of lesbian and gay law reform in Western Australia in 2002. Discrimination on the grounds of sexuality or gender identity is unacceptable. Giz is proud of the achievements for equality that the Western Australian gay and lesbian community base achieved. Giz is an outspoken parliamentary advocate for the rights of lesbians and gays. She sought and secured government funding for gay and lesbian community services.

In August 2006, Giz made a written submission and testified in person before the ‘National Inquiry into Discrimination against People in Same-Sex Relationships: Financial and Work-Related Entitlements and Benefits’Listen to her statement (mp3) and read her submission (doc).

Since May 2009, the Greens WA Spokesperson for Sexuality is Lynn MacLaren MLC.
